How many majors and minors can you take in college while playing football?

Hi, my name is Daniel Goshen, and I am a 14 year old from England. I go to the 7th best school in the UK, and I my dream is to attend college, and play college football in America. The universities I want to attend are any Ivy League Universities (mostly Harvard and Cornell), Northwestern, Duke, Berkley, UCLA, Stanford etc. So if I am playing football at a college like one of those, how many majors and minors can I take? Thank you for any help in advance.

You will eventually be asked to declare a major. Unless you declare a major, you cannot graduate in a decent amount of time/money.

Each major requires a certain number of subjects and credit hours. For example, a 3 hour course is an average amount of work. It would meet Monday-Wednesday-Friday for one hour each, or else it would be Tuesday-Thursday for 1 1/2 hours each. That means you spend 6-8 hours per week to prepare for this single class. That’s readings, papers, etc.

So failing to know what you really want to do in your adult life will cost you time and especially money.

You can take electives, that is, courses that you do to fill in on your education, as required by your major. Or you can do courses that you consider interesting. An interesting course may or may not fulfill requirements for graduation.

Sometimes you actually may not know what you want as your major, then you tell them you are in “general studies” or “undeclared.” Everyone has to take a certain number of baseline courses, such as composition, algebra, etc. Then you are required to decide. But, it may happen, you still can’t decide. This is where it gets expensive. Don’t think your parents will allow this to go on and on when they are paying for it.

This is a very different system than you have in the UK. So having courses in multiple colleges is not really done. It’s very straightforward here. It typically takes 120 hours of coursework to graduate. (Remember the example of the 3 hours course?) So transferring college level coursework hours may help some, but don’t expect everything to successfully transfer. Going to a local community college to get these basic courses out of the way is the most cost effective way to do a professional educational plan these days. Then you transfer these courses to the University and get accepted there.
